Mu Cang Chai

Mu Cang Chai

A highland district in Yen Bai, known for rice terraces stretching across whole hillsides.

Set above 1,000 m at the foot of the Hoang Lien Son range, Mu Cang Chai is known for terraces cut into the slopes by Hmong families over generations. They are at their best when the fields are flooded around May and June, and again when the rice ripens in September and October.
